Wow. So much for "updating everyday," huh?
Well... the truth is, this is a great thing. It means that Toree and I were INCREDIBLY busy and productive while in the big city, and so many amazing opportunities have come up for us!
First of all, one of our friends came across this gem in the May issue of UK's Vogue... it flew over Fauxtale's radar, but we can share it with you now! Thank you Daisy Lowe for the shout out:
New York City welcomed us with crisp autumn air and skies as blue as the ocean is deep. Toree posted up in Tribeca while I crossed over the Williamsberg bridge and set up camp in Brooklyn. With all the materials and tools brought between the two of us, we figured it would be smart to spread out and not overwhelm our friends. As Halloween weekend approached, we cranked out as many last minute orders as we could, including this gem that Toree made for our buddy Austin (better known as Trouble, for reasons one can only understand after falling victim to his incredible charm and irresistible youth)
Thank god we arrived right before Halloween, because that city is EXPENSIVE! The few pieces we were able to custom make right before the holiday allowed us to meagerly survive on pizza and deli sandwiches for the remaining 6 days. The weekend was a Halloween Party Extravaganza like we've never been to before... Toree and I accidentally stumbled upon the Greenwich Village Parade and ended up staring in awe as the masses of people in full costume and floats overflowing with dancing mummies, ghosts and Lady Gaga look-a-likes rolled at a record 1 (maybe) mile per hour down 6th Avenue. Spending most of our time dressing other people for the big event, Toree and I had to (as always) MacGyver a pair of quick costumes for ourselves... this was the best we could come up with. Ladies and gentlemen, I give you Edie Sedgewick with a drug problem and her questionably abusive father, "Fuzzy".
We could've done better. Maybe next year.
After the festivities, we put "serious business" faces on and hit the city with nothing but Fauxtale on our minds. On Nov. 2nd, we found ourselves socializing amidst Women's Wear Daily's rather extensive and starry inner circle for their 100th Anniversary celebration at New York's Cipriani restaurant. The Bellini flutes seemed to flow all night, and at the end Toree and I were flattered by the incredibly polite and stunning Harley Newton-Viera and Sarah Staudinger, who loved our work so much she bought one of our necklaces off of my neck.
Fauxtale also drew the attention of art directors from both Vans and the biannual fashion/art publication, Dirty Durty Diary. We are looking forward to collaborating with both parties in the near future!
We also met up with fellow Californian (well, and Canadian) designer Stacey Clark and her partner Harold Kuhn of Odilon. Stacey showed us some amazing fabric and trim stores in the city, while Harold showed us some fabulous places to dance in the lower east side. If you haven't checked out their stuff, take a look!
We ended our trip by shooting an entire editorial with Dujour magazine, debuting our new collection and stepping in front of the camera officially together for the first time. The crew there was amazing, and the entire day was relaxing, fun and altogether a wonderful experience that we can't wait to share with everyone in the new issue. The only difficult part of the whole day was trying to make me NOT smile for the camera. I was having so much fun that I couldn't look serious if my life depended on it. I feel like that was New York in a nutshell for both Toree and I... we were having so much fun, it didn't even seem like we were working.
That being said, I'm back in California and Toree is hanging back in NYC for a few more days, attending a few more meetings while I hold down the fort over here. I'll be writing more often now that I'm in the studio by myself for a week or so, can't wait to post our progress as it keeps unraveling!
